ViewWatch Station CPU Utilization Is High After Upgrade To SiteWatch Version 5

CPU utilization on ViewWatch stations may be high after upgrading to SiteWatch version 5. CPU utilization in displayed in the ViewWatch menu bar.

This occurs because of the increased window area available for video panes. CPU utilization will be lowest when the size of the video panes is close to the size of the video images, which is 352x240 for SIF and 176x120 for QSIF. If the screen is arranged so that the video panes are larger that the size of the video images, then the CPU has to work harder to expand the size of the images prior to rendering them. Try one or more of the following methods to reduce CPU utilization.

  1. Change the ViewWatch computer's screen resolution to 800x600. ViewWatch will automatically resize the video panes. With 4 video pane rows and 4 columns the resulting video panes will be close to the size of a QSIF video image and your CPU utilization should go down.
  2. Change the number of video pane rows or columns. For example, if you want to view 16 cameras at 1024x768, add "maxpanes=25" to the URL of the logon page (e.g. http://<server>/ewatch/logon.asp?maxpanes=25". Then after you log on to ViewWatch click Tools->Setup Video Panes and select 5 columns and 5 rows. The resulting video panes will be close to the size of a QSIF video image and your CPU utilization should go down.
  3. Adjust the size of the video panes by grabbing the pane borders with the mouse and dragging them to new positions. It is best to do this before starting any video.
